In part one of this two-part blog series, we went over some basic ways of preparing both yourself and your hot tub in advance of its use. From basic personal themes like hydration and showering beforehand to hot tub care tips like checking water temperature and keeping the hot tub covered when it’s not in use, there are several ways to go about preparing for a hot tub experience.
At Dolphin Pools & Spas, we’re proud to serve as an authorized Bullfrog Spa dealer to clients around Salt Lake City and other parts of Utah, providing these and other high-quality custom spa options to meet all your needs. Today’s part two of our series will go over some other basic prep for both yourself and your hot tub ahead of a session.
Removing Debris or Other Accumulation
If it’s been a while since your last hot tub use, there may be some debris or other accumulation on the surface of the water. This is natural and to be expected, as dirt, leaves and other items can easily make their way into an outdoor hot tub even with a cover on it.
The first step here is simply to remove any such debris from the surface using a skimmer net or similar tool. Once you’ve done this, which should only take a few minutes at most, it’s time to check for any buildup or grime along the sides and bottom of the hot tub itself. If you notice any issues in these areas, use a sponge or mild cleaner to remove them before starting up the tub.
Take Off Jewelry
Because metal can interact with the water chemistry in undesirable ways, it’s always a good idea to remove any metal jewelry before getting into a hot tub. This will help prevent potential damage or chemical imbalances within the spa.
Avoiding Alcohol
While many people enjoy having a drink while relaxing in their hot tub, we advise against this practice. Not only can alcohol dehydrate you further and counteract some of the preparation methods we went over in part one, it also poses a safety risk if you become too intoxicated.
Use the Bathroom First
It may sound silly or obvious, but it’s important to use the bathroom before getting into the hot tub. Not only will this prevent any interruptions or interruptions in your relaxation time, it also helps ensure the hot tub water stays as clean and sanitary as possible.
Keeping Drinks Away
One more important tip: Be sure to keep all drinks and snacks off the edge of the hot tub itself. Not only can these items fall in, potentially causing a mess, they may also bring unwanted debris or residue into the water. Instead, place them on a nearby table or other surface away from the spa.
Setting a Time Limit
While we all wish we could endlessly soak in a hot tub, it’s important to set a time limit for yourself and stick to it. Soaking for too long can lead to dehydration and other health concerns, even if you’ve followed all the previous steps perfectly.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Finally, after usage be sure to properly clean and maintain your hot tub according to the manufacturer’s instructions. This helps ensure your spa stays in top condition and is ready for use whenever you want to relax.
